Pringles

Pringles •

As covered on my Pringles portfolio, when it comes to the brand, everyone who knows of it remembers its distinguished logo: a white face with brown hair, black eyes, a fancy brown mustache, and an equally fancy red tie. So when they updated the logo back in 2020, mixed reactions arose.

As of 2009, this was the logo.

  • Professional — catches the attention of the audience with its distinguished charm.

Personality — the choices of color and shape of features creates a positive charm that attracts those to the brand itself.

Identifiable — Making it a face gives both relatability and idealism of a mascot for its audience

  • A very static face, making it appear to give only one expression despite the numerous flavors it comes in

As of 2021, this is the new logo.

  • Identifiable — Adding the name of the brand to the bowtie makes the logo more noticeable

Simplistic — less features in the face to focus on, drawing more attention to the bowtie with its brand name

Balanced — The position of the Pringles lettering on the tie aligned with the face creates a sense of symmetry and balance from a three-quarter perspective

  • Despite the pros, it sacrifices most of its personality for more simplicity. On paper, it is just a white face and a bowtie with the name “Pringles” on it.

The removal of strokes also makes its skin tone appear missing when printed on a white background, whereas the previous logo makes it more definable in shape.

Solution: Logo Update

Logo 1 - Pringles (UPDATED!)

    • Added back hair from 2009 logo

    • Slight color change of skin tone

  • In a sense, the new logo has more pros going for it due to its simplicity, yet there is more appeal to its predecessor for its personality.

This logo is what I believe finds the perfect balance between the two, understanding both its unique traits as well as its simplistic design.

However, by slightly darkening the skin tone, it gives the logo more shape when printed on a white background.

Logo 2 - Pringles (Cheddar) (NEW!)

    • Added beret

    • Added cheddar cheese dust

  • Incorporating different fashions for different flavors gives the Pringles logo more of a personality, matching the taste better than a simple face on a container.

For Cheddar, the choices were simple, incorporating a French vibe that can be associated when tasting cheesy flavors — cheddar included.

Logo 3 - Pringles (Sour Cream & Onion) (NEW!)

    • Added an onion ring halo

    • Added wings

  • Incorporating different fashions for different flavors gives the Pringles logo more of a personality, matching the taste better than a simple face on a container.

For Sour Cream & Onion, the audience associates the flavor being one of the top Pringle flavors, giving it a “heavenly” outlook.

Logo 4 - Pringles (Barbecue) (NEW!)

    • added shades

  • Incorporating different fashions for different flavors gives the Pringles logo more of a personality, matching the taste better than a simple face on a container.

For Barbecue, people associate it being a “cool choice to pick” for pics. Giving the Pringles Man shades creates that general appeal, making the flavor a more enticing option.

Logo 5 - Pringles (Pizza) (NEW!)

    • Added chef’s hat

  • Incorporating different fashions for different flavors gives the Pringles logo more of a personality, matching the taste better than a simple face on a container.

For Pizza, adding a chef’s hat was the ideal choice, complimenting it with the flavor that is, of course, associated as a “dish.”

Logo 6 - Pringles (Honey Mustard) (NEW!)

    • Altered the color of the logo with yellow tones

    • Altered eye & eyebrow expression

  • Incorporating different fashions for different flavors gives the Pringles logo more of a personality, matching the taste better than a simple face on a container.

For honey mustard, I wanted to incorporate more yellow/gold tones for the Pringles logo, as the flavors are generally yellow in color — a color associated with more positive energy.

Logo 7 - Pringles (Salt & Vinegar) (NEW!)

    • added detective hat

    • added pipe w/ bubbles to logo

  • Incorporating different fashions for different flavors gives the Pringles logo more of a personality, matching the taste better than a simple face on a container.

For Salt & Vinegar, the flavor is associated with having British origins. To make the logo more identifiable, adding such fashion choices enhances its personality that can best describe the flavor as “the interesting option.”

Logo 8 - Pringles (Dill Pickle) (NEW!)

    • substituted logo’s mustache for a “pickle mustache”

  • Incorporating different fashions for different flavors gives the Pringles logo more of a personality, matching the taste better than a simple face on a container.

For Dill Pickle, a more direct approach was taken — substituting the mustache with dill pickles, showcasing that the Pringles Man is so immersed with the flavor, he decided to embrace it by changing his most defining feature.

Logo 9 - Pringles (Ranch) (NEW!)

    • Added more detail on logo’s mustache

    • Altered eyebrow expression

    • Added hay

  • Incorporating different fashions for different flavors gives the Pringles logo more of a personality, matching the taste better than a simple face on a container.

For ranch, the idea behind the logo was to incorporate common southern features without it overpowering the logo. Giving the logo a more “country feel” will best reflect on how the flavor itself tastes.

Logo 10 - Pringles (Buffalo) (NEW!)

    • added shades

    • altered facial expression

  • Incorporating different fashions for different flavors gives the Pringles logo more of a personality, matching the taste better than a simple face on a container.

For buffalo, the flavor is usually associated with being “hot” or “spicy”; therefore, giving the logo more of an expression to match was something that I felt was required.

Logo 11 - Pringles (Wendy’s) (NEW!)

    • Added the “Wendy’s” hairstyle

    • Added freckles

  • Incorporating different fashions for different flavors gives the Pringles logo more of a personality, matching the taste better than a simple face on a container.

For Wendy’s, there was only one clear answer… combining the look of the Wendy’s logo with the look of the Pringles logo, giving it a better understanding that this is, indeed, a collaboration.
